The legend says at some point the statue came into the possession of St. Teresa of Avila, a Carmelite nun in the 16th century at a convent in Spain. She would go on to reform the Carmelite order, returning to a more strict life based upon a Rule of Life originally written in the early 1200s by St. Albert of Jerusalem, who was responsible for the Catholics in the Holy Land. more
